In My Mailbox #7

In My Mailbox is a cool meme from The Story Siren.  If you'd like to take part, the details are here.

This week I have five books to show you.  Firstly I received Wereworld: Rise of the Wolf from Puffin as part of a blog tour which runs through the whole of January.  The blog tour will be visiting me on 4th January!  (All book links go to Goodreads)

Paperback Edition (with thanks to Puffin)

Next are two books I won at a Giveaway on Nina's blog - Brush Up On Your Reading.  Thanks Nina!  These are my first ever giveaway wins :)

13 LITTLE BLUE ENVELOPES by Maureen Johnson

(eBook edition)

(eBook Edition)

And lastly, what I bought for myself this week:

(Paperback Edition)

Do you see a trend here?  Thirteen seems to be my lucky number this week!

(Paperback Edition)

For my UK readers, I'm not quite sure how this came about.  I pre-ordered The Iron King and The Iron Daughter from The Book Depository UK a couple of weeks ago and this one turned up in the post this week even though the UK release date isn't until April 2011.  I just think it's really strange that I received the second in the series before the first which is due for UK release in January 2011.  Has this happened to anyone else?

I have a question for you Kindle-ites out there.  If I have an ebook in pdf, will this read as a normal ebook on my Kindle or do I have to convert it?  If I do need to convert, can you suggest a good software or website that I can use?

So friends, that is my mailbox this week.  What did you recieve in yours?

fab books - can't wait to see your reviews

You can read pdf's directly on your Kindle, but it never really looks good. So I would suggest to convert them in to a .mobi file.
The best free software for this is calibre, you can manage all your eBooks there and convert into any file you want.
However, let me tell you that converting pdf into something else never works perfectly, but it's good enough to read.

If you have any more questions just aks:)

Oh and btw: Great list you have there. You might (or might not) know what an incredible big fan of Julie Kagawa I am so I'm excited to read your Iron Daughter Review!

I'm quite excited about the Iron trilogy so can't wait to hear you reviews of that and The Thirteenth Chime. Enjoy!

I'm taking part in the Wereworld blog tour too, on the 7th :)

The cover for The Thirteenth Chime is stunning, as is the one for The Iron Daughter. I still need to read the Iron Fey series, I can't wait for the UK release!

Thirteen Reasons Why is an amazing book! I hope you love it as much as I did! I really need to read the Iron Fey series---it's been sitting on my shelf forever! Enjoy all your books!

Good haul of books! I'm on the Wereworld blog tour on Jan 9th.

Re: The Iron Daughter, did book depos send you the US version then? Cause I can't imagine the UK one is printed yet!

Also, if you have a Kindle 3 (which is what I've got, I don't know specifics for earlier Kindles) you can send PDF's to your kindle email address with 'convert' as the subject and they'll convert it for you. Far from perfect as it removes formatting but completely readable.

Very curious about The Thirteenth Chime! And thanks for letting me know Past Continuous came from the Book Depository because the place I was going to get it from wanted twice that amount! I hope your liking it! Have a great week!

YAY Iron Daughter! Can't wait to see what you think of that one! I've always just read the PDFs on the Kindle, I'm a little technologically challenged outside of the computer and didn't even know you could convert them to a .mobi file. Good to know:)

Envious of the Thirteenth Chime & Iron Daughter. I've heard nothing but amazing things on them. You had a great loot in the mailbox girl.

13 Little Blue Envelopes looks interesting.

I'd like to read 13 Reasons Why, but I also kind of don't, because I think it sounds like it would be pretty sad.

That's so funny, you and your "13" trend this week.

As for the Kindle question - well now, you should remember this is my specialty! Please shoot me an email anytime if you have questions.

Here's your answer. PDF files on the kindle are not as easy to read, you don't have any way to control the font except for zooming AND the text-to-speech function won't work.

The absolute easiest way to get a PDF file converted to kindle format is to attach the file to an email with the subject line reading "Convert". Send it to your free kindle email and amazon will wireless upload it and convert it to your kindle in seconds. If you don't have a wireless network available it will email the file back to you (already converted) and you can use your usb port to upload it to your device.

??? - just email me or post a comment on my blog or here.

Great picks! I love the Iron Fey books. Doing a late IMM response this week. I'm just coming back from vacation - funny that I'm on the internet less when I have all this extra time.
