Blog Tour: Smokeless Fire by Samantha Young

Welcome to todays stop on the Smokeless Fire tour. I will be reviewing Smokeless Fire and also having a giveaway for two ebook copies of the book.

SMOKELESS FIRE by Samantha Young

Released:  October 2011
Publisher:  Createspace
Review format:  Kindle copy
Source:  received from the author in exchange for an honest review
Pages: 358
Series:  Fire Spirits #1

For the last two years Ari’s life has been anything but normal and on her 18th birthday, when her friends surprise her with a gimmick genie claiming to grant wishes, Ari discovers the truth. The tragic and strange occurrences surrounding her 16th birthday were not coincidental and her life is never going to be the same again.

Ari’s real parents are not normal. They are not loving. They are not human.

They are myth.

They are Smokeless Fire.

They are Jinn.
We all know the saying about not judging a book by it’s cover, but when Samantha asked me if I’d like to review Smokeless Fire as part of the blog tour, I have to admit that I didn’t even read the blurb until after I’d said yes. That cover just blew me away with it’s golden flames, sparkles and a pretty face!

The pretty face on the cover turns out to be Ari, the main character in the story. She lives at home with her father (when he’s not away on business) and has just graduated school. The story starts shortly before Ari’s 18th birthday at a time when Ari thinks she is just your average kid. She’s not, and as we find out very quickly, Ari’s real parents are not who she thought they were. They’re not even human! (Not a spoiler - this is in the blurb).

It was a refreshing change to have a different type of paranormal being that the usual vampires, angels, faeries and werewolves. In Smokeless Fire, we have Jinn (or genies), who from what we find out in the book, are mostly evil, cunning creatures who love causing havoc.

It was very easy to quickly become attached to the main characters In Smokeless Fire. Ari is intelligent, although a little anxious as even at graduation she has no idea what she wants to do with her life and it doesn’t help that all her friends have planned for years and are all set to head off to their respective colleges. She’s also really worried about her best friend Charlie who she’s known for many years. After an accident on Ari’s 16th birthday which pulled Charlies’ family apart, Charlie has taken to drinking and drugs, but Ari is not about to give up on him. Then along comes stunningly handsome half-Jinn, Jai, who puts a big spanner in the works!

I got so involved in the plot whilst reading Smokeless Fire that I really didn’t want it to end, and OMG there is a pretty major cliffhanger! With plenty of action, Genies, Kings, other worldly creatures and just a touch of blood and gore, Smokeless Fire makes for a great read. There is no way I wont be grabbing book 2 as soon as it is released! This YA paranormal romance was an awesome story and one I totally recommend you add to your reading pile very soon!

My rating: 5 stars

I've read the first book in the Lunamorte series and I think Samantha Young is a talented writer.

From you review, this new book sounds facinating - Genie's huh? That's certainly a new take on paranormal.

I love it when an author steps away from the usual genre fare-I haven't read anything about the Jinn and it's refreshing to have a new 'big bad' to read about.

Judging from your review, it sounds fantastic and is as different as it appears with the the new baddie (the Jinn). A book to look forward to.

Thanks for hosting (and posting :o] ) this blog tour!
I'm always happy to learn about great new books out there!
